- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup cherry filling or preserves
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.
- Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the Pastries: Cut the puff pastry into squares, approximately 3×3 inches each. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each square. Add a small spoonful of cherry filling on top of the cream cheese. Fold the corners of each square toward the center, pinching them together to form a sealed pastry.
- Prepare the Egg Wash: Beat the egg with a tablespoon of water. Brush the tops and sides of each pastry with the egg wash to give them a golden sheen when baked.
- Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is well-thawed but still cold when handling, as this helps in getting a nice puff during baking.
- You can use other types of fruit fillings or preserves for variety.
