Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 250 g minced meat (beef, chicken, or lamb)
  • 100 g cheese, shredded (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 g breadcrumbs
  • 100 g flour
  • To taste salt
  • To taste black pepper
  • A handful parsley, chopped
  • For frying oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 50 ml milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes:
    • Boil the peeled potatoes until tender.
    • Mash the potatoes with butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Set aside and let cool.
  2. Cook the Filling:
    • Heat a bit of oil in a pan. Add the onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
    • Add minced meat, cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and parsley.
    • Mix in the shredded cheese and let it melt into the mixture. Set aside.
  3. Form the Croquettes:
    • Take a scoop of mashed potato and flatten it in your hand.
    • Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center, then shape the potato around it to form a ball or oval shape.
  4. Coating the Croquettes:
    • Place flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs into separate dishes.
    • Roll each croquette in flour, dip in egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  5. Fry the Croquettes:
    • Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
    • Fry the croquettes in batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Notes

  • Cheese Variations: Try different cheeses for variation, such as Gouda or Emmental.
  • Air Fryer: For a healthier version, use an air fryer instead of deep frying.
  • Sauce Pairing: Serve with a dipping sauce such as garlic aioli or spicy ketchup for extra flavor.
  • Potato Consistency: Ensure the mashed potatoes are firm enough to hold the filling without breaking. Adjust with more flour if necessary.
