Description

Delicious puff pastry bites filled with a creamy béchamel, ham, and cheese.


Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain Dijon mustard
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 14 oz puff pastry
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425ºF (220ºC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour, stirring for about 3 minutes.
  3. Gradually add milk, whisking until thickened (roughly 5 minutes). Stir in mustard, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  4. Roll out puff pastry until it measures approximately 13 x 15 inches and cut out 2-inch circles.
  5. Brush edges with beaten egg, place béchamel, ham, and cheese in the center, fold and seal.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Can use salted butter but adjust salt in the sauce.
  • No substitutions required for the flour.
  • Non-dairy alternatives can be used for the milk.
