Description

Delicious homemade stuffed crust pepperoni pizza with a gooey cheese filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (for stuffing)
  • 24 slices of pepperoni
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
    • Add olive oil, salt, and flour gradually. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
    • Place a pizza stone or baking tray inside to heat up.
  3. Shape and Stuff the Crust:
    • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a 14-inch circle.
    • Transfer the dough to a lightly cornmeal-dusted baking sheet.
    • Arrange a border of mozzarella cubes around the edge and fold the dough over, pinching to seal and create the stuffed crust.
  4. Assemble the Pizza:
    • Spread pizza sauce over the base, leaving the crust uncovered.
    • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the sauce.
    • Arrange pepperoni slices evenly over the cheese.
  5. Bake:
    • Carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking tray.
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  6. Finishing Touches:
    • Remove from the oven and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
    • Let the pizza cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure the cheese is fully sealed in the crust to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Experiment with different cheeses for the stuffing, like cheddar or gouda, for added flavor.
  • For a crispier crust, bake directly on a preheated pizza stone.
  • Feel free to add additional toppings like vegetables or other meats as desired.
